Protesting residents freely chose to live near the airport

Subject: Farnborough Airport
Dear Mr Franklin,
Further to your lead story in The Free Press pertaining to Farnborough Airport, I feel for the residents who have property adjoining or close to the airport who proclaim that they will be affected by the proposed increase of flights.

I feel sorry for the lack of foresight given, that one could not envisage the possibilities of Farnborough Airport opening up to the demand of aviation requirements in line with expanding commerce both local and international. It is the home of British aviation; it is and will be for the foreseeable future.

Primarily it is about choice: they chose to live near an airport. With the necessity of more flights into Farnborough being requested, some of the local residents now cry foul, but it was their initial error of judgement.

It is understandable that complaining residents choose to forget that the decision to buy their property where they did was wrong, and it is understandable that they now wish to stop any more flights into Farnborough.

Progress affects us all, good and indifferent. Let one be mature enough to accept that mistakes have been made and not to turn the table to involve others into accepting the blame for securing the longevity of a very important piece of British history.
Sincerely,
J Redding
