Trying to awaken Britain - a report by Derek Bennett, Editor of Euro Realist
27/03/2008

This spring in Britain, from deep
down, the earth across the country shook. For those who
like omens it was almost as if England itself has begun
to shake from its roots and is, at last, awaking to
the danger of the EU take-over of Britain, and the
appalling Lisbon Treaty currently going through
Parliament.

The next day, enough patriotic people who obviously
care more for their sovereignty and liberty than the
majority of their MPs, travelled from all
parts of the country to lobby for a referendum
on the treaty which had been promised
to them.

On the same morning that around
2,500 people queued patiently to see their
MPs, five characters who oppose the expansion
of Heathrow airport managed to breach the Palace of
Westminster security to climb onto the roof and drape banners.
Naturally, the BBC which it has recently been revealed
has taken funding from the EU, gave considerable time to
these five whose aim is to save a few square miles of the
country, whilst ignoring the 2,500 who were there to save all of the country. It is little wonder anti-EU campaigners get extremely frustrated with the BBC and media generally.

The reason the organisers of this major
cross party event felt it necessary to set in place this
mass lobby, was due to the slippery nature of our
MPs and Labour Government who initially promised
a referendum in their manifesto, then reneged as
they knew they would lose.

Sadly, the Liberal Democrat position is just as despicable as they too
promised the electorate they would vote in favour of
holding a referendum, then like Gordon Brown
chickened out. They have used the get out clause of
demanding a full referendum on either in or out of
the EU which they think they can win, whilst still voting against the referendum to hold a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty. Slippery characters, the Lib Dems. (They were ever thus - Alan Franklin.)

Peter Roberts, the anti-road pricing campaigner
who hit the news when his No 10 Downing
Street petition gained 1.8 million votes, was the recipient
of the typical Nu Labour response from his
own MP when he got in to see him. He was first informed
that the treaty was different to the EU constitution. Then, when the
argument was put that everyone who created the EU constitution considers it 98 per cent the same, he was told that it was different for
the UK as we have our “Red lines”!

At this point Peter told his MP that the treaty would
be self amending and our red lines would be amended away. It
looks as if the next protest will have to be from the roof of Parliament!
(Peter Cope: travelled from Lichfield to
make his point.)
