An insight into why the UN is an anti-western waste of space. Opinion, by Jeff Mazzella

The United Nation's Human Rights Council has launched a witch-hunt against the United States. The charge is racism against Muslims. And the United Nations' so-called Human Rights Council has put its top attack dog on the case. His name is Doudou Diène. He's from Senegal -- a country that is no stranger to legitimate accusations of human rights violations -- and he's in the United States right now, as you read this alert, building a venomous case to present America as a human rights violator to the entire world! But Doudou Diène's mission likely has a purpose infinitely more sinister, more destructive, and more dangerous to United States. Doudou Diène's report will surely condemn America for supposed "racism" against Muslims and it's a very good bet that the end result of this so-called report will be DEMANDS FROM THE WORLD COMMUNITY THAT THE UNITED STATES RELAX ITS SECURITY MEASURES -- BASED ON FALSE CLAIMS THAT OUR SECURITY MEASURES ARE VIOLATIONS OF THE HUMAN RIGHTS OF MUSLIMS -- AND LEAVE THIS NATION VUNERABLE TO TERORIST ATTACKS AND POSSIBLY EVEN EVENTUAL DEFEAT IN THE GLOBAL WAR ON TERROR! Joseph Klein, writing for FrontPageMagazine.com, had this to say about Doudou Diène: "Diène is from Senegal, a predominantly Muslim country which is a member of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), the largest voting bloc at the United Nations. He has consistently sided with that bloc against Western and other democracies such as Japan. His cultural and religious biases have led to his obsession with Islamophobia, which he has called 'the most serious form of religious defamation.' Here are some examples, according to Klein: "For example, Diène has repeatedly criticized the Danish government for placing freedom of expression above 'combating religious intolerance and incitement to religious hatred' on the grounds that it was not quick enough to condemn a private newspaper's publication in 2006 of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad. He has criticized 'groups that have instrumentalized the freedom of expression' -- a direct assault on the First Amendment guarantees embodied in our most basic instrument of liberty, the U.S. Constitution. Yet Diène failed to condemn a blatantly anti-Semitic cartoon brought to his attention by the Wiesenthal Center that appeared a year earlier in the ArabNews (billed as Saudi Arabia's first English-language daily newspaper). The cartoon depicted rats wearing skullcaps bearing the Star of David, scurrying backwards and forwards through holes in the wall of an edifice bearing the poster 'Palestine House.' "Diène was also silent about government-issued schoolbooks in Egypt and Saudi Arabia that promote hatred against Jews and Christians, which UN Watch had asked him to condemn without success. These books, according to UN Watch, refer to Jews and Christians as 'cursed,' as 'infidels,' as 'unbelievers,' and as 'enemies of Islam.' They teach schoolchildren that 'the Jews are a people of betrayal and treachery' and that 'a malicious Crusader-Jewish alliance [is] striving to eliminate Islam from all the continents.' "Diène talks about how Western-style racism against Muslims is the major factor causing the so-called clash of civilizations between the Judeo-Christian and the Islamic cultures. Where is his condemnation of Islamic fanatics practicing a faith that demands conquest and subjugation of the adherents of all other beliefs, whether they are Jews, Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, Bahá'ís, or atheists? Virtually all of the worst acts of terrorism in the world today are committed, financed, and led by such fanatics who claim to be acting in the name of Allah. Saudi Arabia, the self-proclaimed guardian of the Islamic faith, is the fountainhead of religious intolerance and of the strict segregation of Muslims from non-Muslims. It is a land where it is a crime punishable by death for non-Muslims to even set foot in certain 'holy' areas." Read enough? Our Leaders Are Asleep At The Wheel You'll never guess how the United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Zalmay Khalilzad, reacted to Doudou Diène's anti-American witch hunt. He basically rolled out the red carpet for Doudou Diène's eight-city tour of the United States that will end in June. Khalilzad told reporters: "We don't think [Diène's investigation] is needed but we welcome the visit." WELCOME THE VISIT? What is he thinking? But the best is yet to come. Khalilzad added: "I think it would be important for the Human Rights Council to spend its time on real problems and the problems of violations of human rights in countries that are notorious for their violations of human rights." That's mighty diplomatic... even for a diplomat. If Doudou Diène and the United Nations Human Rights Council really wanted to investigate serious violations of human rights, they could start in Diène's home country of Senegal, spread their investigations to other Human Rights Council member states -- such as Cuba and Saudi Arabia -- and have enough work for the next century! Here is a small section of a U.S. State Department report on human rights in Senegal. "Government forces were responsible for several deaths during the year, and several disappearances from previous years remained unsolved. At times, police tortured and beat suspects during questioning and arbitrarily arrested and detained persons. Prison conditions were poor. Impunity remained a problem. Lengthy pretrial detention largely due to an overburdened judiciary is a problem.... The Government, at times, limited the freedoms of speech and association. Domestic violence and discrimination against women, female genital mutilation (FGM), child labor and trafficking in persons remained problems. There were reports that rebel MFDC forces committed killings, torture, and rape." And Doudou Diène has the nerve to investigate the United States? It's time to expose the United Nations for what it is: the failed dream of liberal politicians who believed the lie that evil does not really exist, that all the world's problems can be attributed to a lack of communication and that all the world's problems can be solved because all people will listen to reason. The United Nations has become little more than a breeding ground for anti-American sentiment -- and they do it with your tax dollars! It's past time that our elected leaders took note! More Information on Doudou Diène... Dr. Nile Gardner of the Heritage Foundation has said this of Doudou Diène: "Doudou Diène has a track record of focusing his attention on freedom-loving democratic societies, with damning reports on alleged institutionalized racism in countries such as Japan, Canada, Denmark, and Switzerland. His reports are highly controversial and are usually rejected out of hand by the Western governments he is targeting. Like most other U.N. 'Special Rapporteurs' Diene is unaccountable as well as unqualified for the position he holds. The United Nations doesn't even bother to post his biography online, though his career details can be found on the website of the Organization of American States. His entire career has been spent as a U.N. bureaucrat, with absolutely no real world experience. Even by the dismally low standards of the United Nations, Diene is a spectacular non-entity. And Klein in another article published by FrontPageMagazine.com, had this to say about another project bearing Diène's fingerprints (Durban II): "With help from such allies and the Organization of Islamic Conference, the planners are well along in turning Durban II into a forum for decrying Islamophobia and demonizing Israel. Egypt's representative at the Durban Review Preparatory Committee 'substantive' session last week, for example, said that Durban II should focus on criminalizing such things as 'racism in the media,' 'the challenges posed by Islamophobia since the events on 9/11,' and 'instrumentalization of democratic processes for racist applications.' Doudou Diene from Senegal, who is a UN human rights 'expert' and Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of racism, criticized 'groups that have instrumentalized the freedom of expression.'" "The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution is our 'instrument' to protect freedom of expression and religion. The UN's Special Rapporteur and other spokespersons at the Durban II preparatory session evidently believe that it is racist for our courts to apply the First Amendment in protecting the right to freely criticize the contemporary practice of Islam and its use in the name of jihad to justify terrorism. This alien ideology strikes at the core of our fundamental values." And in response to the announcement of Doudou Diène's witch-hunt, Benny Avni of the New York Sun, wrote: "The United Nations, this once-relevant world body, this much heralded promise for the future of mankind has slowly but surely become little more than a pitiful spectacle of corruption and compromise. A monumentally ponderous and inept Tower of Babel filled with incompetents and villains, falling over one another to promote the evil machinations of petty tyrants and Islamist thugs." Part of a Larger Strategy... It would seem that Doudou Diène is not acting alone. Just last March, a United Nations Human Rights Council panel denounced racism in the U.S. and demanded that the United States "stop racial profiling of Americans of Arab, Muslim and South Asian descent" and guarantee that "immigrants and non-nationals are not mistreated." The panel also condemned U.S. searching of air travelers, proclaiming without proof that "such practice continues to be widespread, particularly against Arabs, Muslims, and South Asians." The same Human Rights Council panel also warned us that "measures taken in the fight against terrorism must not discriminate, in purpose or effect, on the grounds of race, color, or national or ethnic origin." You see! The organization no longer merely demands that the United States funnel more tax dollars into the pockets of third-world despots. The United Nations now calls for America to stop protecting itself against terrorist attacks -- and to keep its borders open. Does Diène want the terrorists to attack America again? One thing is certain. Again, the United Nations has become the breeding ground of envy and hatred for America and her people. It's time to say with one unified voice, "Not With Our Tax Dollars."
