Pat and I have just recorded three half hour programs on Cults and Isms: True or False? with Dr. Larry Spargimino of South West Radio Ministries of Oklahoma City. The programs center on our book and will be broadcast in the New Year. One of the chapters is about spiritism, psychic fairs, channelling and the New Age Movement. I say on air that this is a growing and widespread problem. No sooner had we finished the recording than I spotted this report, confirming what I had just said! ALAN FRANKLIN.
WASHINGTON - A new survey finds many Americans blend Christianity with New Age beliefs and attend religious services at more than one place that involve faiths outside their own.The report from the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life also found that nearly half of all Americans -- including many unaffiliated with any religion -- claim to have had a religious or mystical experience.
Among Christians surveyed, 29 percent said they had been in touch with the dead, 14 percent had consulted psychics, and more than a fifth said they believe in reincarnation, astrology or spiritual yoga.
Three in ten Protestants say they attend multiple types of religious services, including services at denominations different from their own. About one in five Catholics say they also attend non-Catholic services.
The survey of more than 4,000 adults has a margin of error of plus or minus two percentage points.
ALAN adds: To get the full picture about Cults and Isms and how Christians are being led astray by deceivers, get a copy of Cults and Isms, True or False? Better still, get everyone in your church to buy one. It's a great antidote to deception.
