John Cornyn, a Texas Republican and key liaison to the White House on immigration, said Tuesday that 700 miles of fencing approved by Congress will probably not be built because of a lack of money and other practical considerations. "It's one thing to authorize. It's another thing to actually appropriate the money and do it," he told reporters. Dear CFIF Member: You read that right! 72 hours after voting for a 700-mile fence to secure our borders, Congress is already back-pedaling from a solemn promise to stop the pandemic flood of illegal aliens coming into the United States! And Senator Cornyn -- who called the Senate vote to build the fence a "symbolic gesture" isn't the only one sounding the alarm. Here's the Star-Telegram quoting Steve McCraw, Texas' homeland security director: "As long as you build the wall and you do nothing else, it's a shortsighted solution... the fence will be ineffective without beefed-up law enforcement and other initiatives." Was the vote to build that 700-mile border fence nothing more than a sham -- a cruel joke on the American people? Did Congress pull the wool over our eyes? Did they think that they could go back home and come back after the election with every intention of granting amnesty to 12 million illegal aliens? You can be the judge of that yourself. But one thing is certain: Our battle for secure borders is far from over. That's why NOW is the time to make our voices heard once again... Did You Hear What Vicente Fox Said? You probably heard the news that the Mexican government and Vicente Fox aggressively lobbied President Bush to VETO the border fence bill over the weekend! But you probably didn't see the following report that came out on Tuesday from the Associated Press: "President Vicente Fox's spokesman criticized the U.S. border fence proposal Tuesday, and predicted the two countries would eventually reach an immigration accord." The article also quotes Fox spokesman Ruben Aguilar as saying that the fence "will be useless and unworkable," and according to the article, Mexico is still working for so-called "comprehensive immigration reform" that -- as Aguilar puts it -- "would allow more people to migrate to the United States." Exactly what does Vicente Fox know that the American people don't know? It's time to send President Bush and our leaders in Congress a clear message -- the American people don't take orders from Vicente Fox! Trashing The Fence! Within hours of the Senate vote in favor of the 700-mile border fence, pro-amnesty forces, liberals and the Main Stream Media launched a full frontal attack against the fence! California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger called the border fence a "stone age" proposal! The Monitor in McAllen, Texas quoted a local resident as saying, "It's going to be like the Berlin Wall." And Richard Cortez, the mayor of McAllen said: "I'm reminded of when Jesus Christ was sitting on the cross and he looks up to the Father and says, 'Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.' And I think that's where we are here." And just about every media outlet editorialized that a border fence simply will not work! Consider the editorial headline published by the Jacksonville Daily News in North Carolina following the Senate vote: "A hefty price tag for mere symbol." Of course those claims simply don't hold water. We already know that fences do work! In fact, Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-CA) claims that since building a fence in the San Diego, California area, the crossing of illegals has declined drastically from more than 200,000 per year in 1992 to about 9,000 in 2004! The pro-amnesty crowd's greatest salvation may rest with the radical environmental lobby -- the same group of closet Socialists who have stopped us from drilling for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) for over a generation and made us slaves to high gasoline prices at the pump and mentally unstable third-world dictators around the globe! Over the weekend, media outlets across the country -- almost as if they were goading the environmental lobby on -- warned us that the construction of the fence would never commence due to lawsuits that radical environmental groups are simply waiting to file! "Before one inch of the fence goes up, experts say, government planners are likely to face substantial resistance from landowners along the border and could become entangled in a web of environmental and right-of-way disputes." -- The Star Telegram -- "Environmentalists say the plan could destroy habitats and cut off access to water for numerous creatures, including the already endangered ocelot and jaguarundi." -- Associated Press -- "That hasn't stopped the worries of Oliver Bernstein, the environmental justice organizer for the Sierra Club along the U.S.-Mexico border. He said the fence would disrupt the natural migration patterns of wildlife, which includes endangered species such as the ocelot." [Emphasis Mine] -- Monitor -- Make no mistake, pro-amnesty forces are still fighting to STOP the fence and grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens. And we simply shouldn't sit back and let them get away with it! Our next course of action should be clear. We can tell our elected leaders -- in no uncertain terms -- that we have NOT lost our resolve. Or we can rest on our laurels -- content with our previous victories in halting amnesty -- and pay the horrendous price later!
