All we like sheep have gone astray...by Pat Franklin

Are you a sheep who has gone astray? I was. I (Pat Franklin) took this picture of sheep in Scotland near Pitlochry on our way to stay at a Christian guest house. How wonderful it is to be a Christian now and be one of Jesus flock! You can be too!

by Pat Franklin

Have you ever gone astray? I certainly did. In ancient Israel the prophet Isaiah wrote these words under divine inspiration: 'All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.' Isa 53:6 My sins were washed away in a moment the night I knelt down and told the Lord Jesus I believed the Bible and I desperately needed His forgiveness and to be one of His people.

That moment was the beginning of my Christian life. You too can have that perfect peace in your heart which comes from knowing that you are forgiven! The one and only way is to believe the Bible and ask the Lord Jesus to forgive you and to be your Lord. It is that simple.

Below is a beautiful list of scriptures which clearly point the way of salvation. They were compiled for: 'God’s Way of Salvation' from Scripture Gift Mission, Radstock House, 3 Eccleston Street, London SW1W 9LZ. I have added only one (1 Cor 12:13) with my footnote at the end.

Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. 1 Timothy 1:15

God wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 1 Timothy 2:4

We testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Saviour of the world. 1 John 4:14

Man is guilty We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way. Isaiah 53:6

The Lord looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. All have turned aside, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one. Psalm 14 2-3

It is written: ‘There is no one righteous, not even one. The way of peace they do not know. There is no fear of God before their eyes.’ All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:10 17-18, 23

Your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you. Isaiah 59:2

God’s love for man God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life.  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. John 3:16-17

Praying to God, Jesus said: This is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. John 17:3

This is how God showed his love among us: he sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 1 John 4:9-10

The coming of the Son of God into the world When the time had fully come, God sent his Son. Galatians 4:4

Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. 1 Timothy 1:15

He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognise him. John 1:10 The birth of the Lord Jesus “…you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:18 20-23

Jesus died for our sins Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. 1 Peter 3:18

He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities…and by his wounds we are healed. Isaiah 53

Resurrection This is what is written: the Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations.Luke 24 46-47

They killed him by hanging him on a tree, but God raised him from the dead on the third day and caused him to be seen. He was not seen by all the people, but by witnesses whom God had already chosen. Acts 10:39-41

Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. 1Corinthians 15:20-22

God’s way of salvation

What must I do to be saved?…Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved. Acts 16:30-31

Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out. Acts 3:19

Repent and be baptised, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

If you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that god raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you coness and are saved. Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Romans 10:9-10, 13

The Lord Jesus said: Whoever comes to me I will never drive away. John 6:37

It is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. Once you were alienated from God…but now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation. Colossians 1:19-22

The Holy Spirit

I will ask the Father and he will give you another Counsellor to be with you forever, the spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. The Counsellor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things. John 14 16-17, 26

For by one spirit are we ALL baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been ALL made to drink into one Spirit. 1 Cor 12:13 *

Be filled with the Spirit. Ephesians 5:18

Do not fear…do not be frightened. 1 Peter 3:13-14

If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. 1 Peter 4:14

Idolatry

I am the Lord your God…you shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them. Exodus 20:2-5

All the gods of the nations are idols, but the Lord made the heavens. Psalm 96:5 1 Cor 8:4,6

Worship the Lord your God and serve him only Matthew 4:10

Put to death whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.  Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. Colossians 3:5-6

Danger of refusing God’s salvation How shall we escape if we ignore such a great salvation? Hebrews 2:3

He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son. But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practise magic arts, the idolaters and all liars – their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulphur. This is the second death. Rev 21:7-8

Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him. John 3:36

Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? Luke 3:7

He is coming back I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. John 14:3

This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven. Acts 1:11

The Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him. Matthew 24:42, 44

Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done. Yes, I am coming soon. Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. Rev 22:12, 20

*This scripture clearly shows that all believers have been baptized into the Holy Spirit, and do not have seek any further Spirit baptism, but must simply try to continue in their Christian walk so that the Holy Spirit may have His way in their lives. There is only one Spirit baptism, at conversion, but many ‘infillings’ throughout life as the Holy Spirit works in individual circumstances. If you are a believer in the Lord Jesus, do not let anyone tell you that you need a further experience of the Holy Spirit. You already HAVE the Holy Spirit indwelling you! You will have plenty of experiences as you walk the Christian path, and you should not be seeking mystical events.
