The Bible makes perfect sense of the world. It tells me the past and it tells me the future.

by Pat Franklin

The Bible makes perfect sense of the world.  It tells me the past and it tells me the future.

I watch a lot of the documentary programs, even though most of them are about as wrong as they can be about the origin of life, the history of the world and the future.  So why watch?  Because they often contain some nugget of information which adds to my own knowledge and confirms what I already know from the Bible about the past and the future.

So what does the Bible tell us about the past?  (I’ll have to do another article to cover the future.)  It tells me that God created everything in only six literal days, followed by a day off, and giving us a pattern of seven days.  It tells me that the human race began not with a piece of slime turning into an ape, but with one man and one woman ( science now verifies this via DNA).

The first man was given one simple commandment, not to eat of a certain tree, and he was told the penalty of eating would be death.  Unfortunately, the woman was seduced into eating, and the man followed her lead, thereby failing the simple test of obedience and reaping the death penalty for himself and all of his descendents.

We know that the earth back then was a very different place, because the people lived so long.  Adam died at the age of 930. At the age of 100 he would still have been a young man.  Our lives are short, partly because we are constantly bombarded with harmful solar radiation, and most of us will never even reach 100.

This again, fits perfectly with science.  We know now that there were once animals which lived long enough to become gigantic, insects with wingspans several feet across, ferns that were six stories tall etc.

So something was protecting us from solar radiation.  The Bible indicates that there was at that time a protective layer blanketing our planet, a watery layer.  We don’t know all the components of it, but the documentary programs sometimes refer to a thin layer of grey iridium, a substance from outer space, which is mysteriously found all over the earth.  I have no doubt that iridium was once part of a watery layer surrounding the earth, part of our protection from the sun’s rays.

So why are there no gigantic creatures around today which could peer into the windows of an eight story building?  I must admit the documentary programs which attempt to explain this just make me laugh.  The best they can come up with is that a big meteor ‘wiped out the dinosaurs’.  Oh please.  It seems to have left the elephants intact.  Never mind; it satisfies the professors.

The Bible tells us what really happened.  Ancient man not only became exceedingly wicked, but demonic beings somehow tampered with the genetic make up of mankind (Genesis Chapter 6), resulting in giantism and possibly other monstrous results.  It got so bad that God had no choice but to wipe out most life on earth by sending the great Flood.  Noah had escaped this genetic tampering.  He was ‘perfect in his generations’; in other words, he was completely human, and his human DNA was all intact.

One reason I watch the documentaries is because they unwittingly give me so much evidence for the Flood of Noah.  The Bible account just makes perfect sense of the world.  It not only rained for 40 days and nights (that was the watery canopy and the iridium layer falling from outer space on to the planet), but the ‘fountains of the deep’ were torn open.

That describes the Great Rift, described in one documentary as ‘the crack that runs round the earth’.     This great crack starts in the north of Israel, turns into the Great Rift Valley and runs all round the globe, ripping through continents and seas, reaching depths of 12 miles in part of the oceans.  If you have a globe, you can trace it with your finger.

As that great crack was torn open, volcanos spewed burning magma from the earth’s core high into the atmosphere.  One documentary said that there were a string of volcanoes strung out for thousands of miles across Russia - all erupting at the same time!    In this terrible worldwide catastrophe, only Noah, his family, and the creatures in the Ark were saved.

The whole event took about a year, the worst year in human history, although there is an even worse time scheduled for the future (but there is a way to escape the next catastrophe, an Ark already prepared for those who are willing to jump aboard!).

We are living in the post-Flood world, and I love to look for evidence of the Flood – the fossils, the rock layers, the way the land lies.

The Bible also tells us what happened next – that almost immediately man’s bad nature started messing things up all over again, until we get to Nimrod and his tower at Babylon for the worship of the heavenly bodies.  People who don’t love God will worship just about anything.

So once again, God had to act, this time by confusing their languages so that the different ethnic groups were forced to disperse, since they could no longer communicate with one another.  So, yes, we have different ethnic groups, but not different races!  We are all one race, the human race, and we can all come to a knowledge of God and ensure that we meet up together again in Heaven!

All this, and we are still in the Bible’s first book, Genesis, the wonderful book of origins!  Then we really zero in, as God chooses out one man, Abraham, to start off the line of the Jews, from whom will come the Redeemer of the world.

You see, the big problem was sin in the world, from the time Adam ate the forbidden fruit until even today – sins piling on top of sins.  The Bible makes it clear that without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sin.  This really shows how bad sin is – that we can’t pay for it or make up for it without our blood or someone’s blood being shed.

The Bible traces the line God is forming, from Abraham to his son Isaac, Isaac’s son Jacob (who God re-named Israel), the twelve sons of Jacob forming the twelve tribes of Israel, the hundreds of years in bondage down in Egypt while God forms them into a nation, and then at last, the Exodus as God takes them back to the land He promised Abraham.

The tumultuous history of the Jewish people, how they consistently defied God by worshipping idols, how they were overrun by enemies and exiled from their land, then brought back to the land just as prophesied by Daniel and other prophets – all this is in the Bible.  And always, throughout the hundreds of sad years, there was a believing group of Jews, a remnant faithful to God, the God of Israel, carefully preserving the records, the holy scriptures which we still have today in the Bible.

This skip through the Old Testament must not finish without mentioning the most important part, the scarlet thread that runs through the scriptures, the promise of the Messiah, the one the Jews were waiting for to deliver them from the Romans.  Little did they know, He was coming in order to deliver them not from the Romans, but from the flames of Hell !

It was His, Jesus’, holy blood that would be shed to pay the price of sin.  He, the Son of God, holy and free of all sin, would take on Himself the wrath of God for sin, would allow His holy blood to be shed for those of us who put our trust in Him.    It is only Jesus’ blood that saves us from Hell.  He has paid your way to Heaven.  His blood is your entrance fee.

Without it you will not be admitted.  Salvation depends entirely on faith in Christ’s redeeming blood, by trusting that His one and only sacrifice of His own life pays the terrible price for sin - my sins, your sins, and the sins of all who put their faith in Him.

Dear reader, have you put your faith in Jesus yet?  Have you asked Him to forgive your sins and cleanse you with His blood?   I hope you will do that today.  Ask Him to help you.  He loves you.  That is why He hung on that cross for six hours – so you could be forgiven and be clean.

Did He do all that in vain?  He doesn’t want to have to send you to Hell.  Do you reject Him now?  This may be your last call, your final chance to accept Jesus Christ as your Saviour.    His words are recorded by John, His cousin and best friend when He was on earth.  They are as follows, and remember- this is Jesus Himself speaking:

‘For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.   For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.   He who believes in Him is not condemned, but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.’  Gospel of John Chapter 3:16-18

Here is a good prayer:  ‘Dear Jesus, I have sinned, but there is nothing I can do to change the bad things I have done.  I know that You died on the cross, You were buried and You rose again from the dead after three days.

I am so sorry I have offended You.  I need Your forgiveness.  I want to believe in You.  I want to be one of Your people.  I want to know You and I want to serve You.  Please help me.  Please forgive me for (name all the sins you can remember).  Please make me one of Your people.’
