Halloween, the witches' holiday, is bigger than ever in the States. But the Bible says: 'Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good.'

by Pat Franklin

We are in the States and people are saying: 'Happy Halloween!'.  Oh my country, how can you be so foolish?  How can you so blithely spit in the face of God by giving honor to devilish things?

This is the first time we have been here on Halloween in many years, and how it has grown.  When I was growing up, no one decorated their homes.  Now there are fake graves in some front yards, tall black Grim Reaper figures, giant plastic spiders hanging from trees etc etc.

Satan must be very pleased.  Witches, vampires, grotesquely ugly masks...what a hoot.   Or not.

Alan and I both dabbled in occult things before we became Christians, and we know the dark supernatural is real.  It is real!  It is not a hoot!  Beware, folks.  Satan comes as a angel of light, with things that seem OK but lead down a very dark path.

Why  revel in the devilish things of Satan's pagan holiday?  Even the Baptist churches over here are not denouncing Halloween.  They are having 'Trunk or Treat' parties in their parking lots.  This is where you decorate the trunk of your car (in England it is called the 'boot') and fill it with candy for the kids.  It is still celebrating Halloween!  Why do anything for the devil's holiday?  Why not instruct our kids in the truth?  What is so hard about that?

Yes, it takes guts.  Jesus said the world would hate us because it hated Him too.

Let's get some backbone and stand with Him, dear friends.

'Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good.' Romans 12:9  I am also thinking of the scripture in Jeremiah the prophet:  'I did not sit in the circle of the merry-makers. Nor did I  exult.  Because of Your hand upon me I sat alone, for You filled me with indignation.'  Jeremiah 15:17.  Jeremiah was not popular with many people, but he was popular with God.

There is so much merrymaking here, despite the terrible troubles of America.  An awful storm  has devastated the east coast; we are dancing on the 'fiscal cliff;  the crucial election which might mean the end of many freedoms is nearly upon us - and yet almost every time I look at the TV here I see groups of people smiling, yelling, waving their arms about like idiots.  You would think the nation would be on its knees pleading for another chance, but they're just being entertained by idiotic programs or sports, or perhaps dressing up as a vampire.  What a hoot.   Happy Halloween.  Or not.

For thus saith the Lord of hosts: Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land: and I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come, and I will fill this house with glory, saith the Lord of hosts. (God shook the earth once, when He gave us the Ten Commandments at Sinai. The next time He will shake not only the whole earth, but the entire universe! Are you ready? Only by putting your faith in the Lord Jesus will you escape this terrible shaking!)
