Alan Franklin on the current crisis - and gold as "the last man standing."

What is happening now is panic among world governments. America and Britain in particular are printing money and effectively lending it to themselves. They are also borrowing on a huge scale round the world. This cannot go on. I believe there will be massive inflation and, probably, the collapse of paper money. I don't know the exact timescale, but I do know that what they are doing has never worked in the history of the world. ALAN FRANKLIN responds to a reader's query and tells more of what's really going on.
This dear lady contacted me from Scotland after watching part of a recent television broadcast I made. Here original query is at the end of my comments.
Hello Elspeth.
It's good to hear from you. I don't know if they are repeating the show, but if you called the TV station, Genesis, I am sure they would tell you. Much of what I said is on the DVDs on our website.
I strongly believe that Christians should be taught how to use their money wisely. We are to be good stewards. Unfortunately, our government is not a good steward. Gordon Brown sold most of our gold holdings at about one quarter of the current price, the precise bottom of the market.

I have always advised Christians to get out of debt, learn to grow food and live well within their means. We have two vehicles, a van that is 23 years old and a car that is 15 years old. Together they are worth - virtually nothing. But they go, are reliable and cost us nothing. Where we live many residents drive fancy cars. The problem is, they are not paid for. That way disaster lies, for people, for firms, for governments and for nations.
In our book, Goodbye America, Goodbye Britain, we explain clearly what is happening and the spiritual malaise at the root of our problem.
Anyway, I digress. I have been saying all this for years but most people have not wanted to know. They like to listen to the money preachers, who urge people to give generously - to them.
I suggest that we should all put a proportion of any spare capital we have into gold. It will be the last man standing. Governments cannot print it or control its supply and it has been a store of value throughout history in every country in the world. I am certain of all this, by the way.We have a track record of getting these things right. Back in 1999, we were all being told that the "Millennium Bug" would destroy the world. Official government press releases said again and again that a major computer crisis could lead to meltdown etc etc. Many ministries repeated this and advised laying in stocks of food and water. I never believed it and in a newspaper column published on the eve of the new millennium I told readers to relax, as absolutely nothing was about to happen.
That night we went to a praise evening. Walking home in the early hours, I noticed that all the lights were on and planes were still flying! My career was safe! It shows you cannot always follow the crowd and accept perceived wisdom.
Since 2006 we have had a flashing warning sign on our website saying: Here Comes The Greater Depression. I advised people not to buy homes as "they will be cheaper year by year." I was regarded with disbelief.
Things are now far, far worse and getting worse by the week, despite many attempts by financial pundits to tell listeners that "the recession will be over by the end of the year." This is no recession. This is differerent. This is the big one.The only safe haven I see is gold and perhaps other commodities. Real things as opposed to paper things.
You can buy very small amounts of gold on BullionVault.com via our website. I just checked the markets and people round the world are selling as little as a few hundred pounds worth. If you want to see what's happening in real time, click on the link, then click on markets at the top of the site. You can then watch as gold is traded in London, Zurich and New York. There is nothing mysterious about this - it's just buying and selling like any other market. The gold can be stored in any of the three countries.
You first have to establish an account as BullionVault will not deal unless the money is first with them. You can trade on your own or ask them to do so for you. It is all very clear, simple and transparent. I like this firm which, to the best of my knowledge, is the cheapest, fairest way for everyone to buy and sell gold in an instant.
Their charges are modest and they also hold the gold for you. I would never advise people to keep gold in their homes. If you look up all the background to BullionVault you will see that they are  careful with other people's resources and have every kind of check and balance in place.
So there you are. I do not think gold should be regarded as a way to riches, merely an opportunity for people to retain the value of their assets. After all, leaving money in banks and building societies seems unrewarding given the tiny rates of interest available. Inflation will come soon and destroy the value of paper money.
I would just put a percentage of any available funds into gold, let this firm store it and sit back and relax about it. Sometimes it goes down, but over the next few years I expect it to go up a lot, as people realise this world crisis is not getting better and everything done so far by Governments will make things much worse and delay the inevitable; many institutions - even countries - going bust. (Many of the big banks are already bankrupt, by any realistic measure.)
I hope this helps. Above all, of course, we should trust in the Lord, as He will be coming back again soon. That way we know that we have nothing to worry about and the troubles in this world will not be ours for much longer. Maranatha - come, Lord Jesus!
Best regards, Alan Franklin

Subject: ounce of gold

Dear Alan,
I have really been enjoying Bob Mitchell's show on End Times Prophecy and I have enjoyed the shows on which you have appeared.
Sadly, due to power cuts and technical problems I was unable to see the last show except for the first 10 minutes or so.  I'll hopefully catch a repeat, or I can buy the DVD from BLP.
My question is this : How would I buy an ounce of gold?  I have looked at your link from your website but I am not of sufficient funds to buy much at all.  On Bob's show you said it was possible to just buy an ounce or so.  I wouldn't want to be storing a wee bitty in a vault.
I have heard of people buying coins and would be happy to store coins myself.
What advice do you have for me please?
Keep up the good work.
Blessings in Jesus,
Elspeth from Bonnie Scotland
