Popular myths examined - global (non) warming, by Alan Franklin.

Television's Horizon program once showed an astonishing documentary. In it a brilliant young scientist demolished the four pillars of global warming. The program, shown just once, was called The Global Warming Conspiracy, or something like that. I taped it, passed it on to a prominent MP - I thought those in authority might be interested- and never got the video back. However, I can recall some of the main conclusions. They included these facts: . The measurements which first signalled a warmer earth were greatly flawed. Most of them were taken on US university campusses, in urban heat islands, where the temperature was naturally higher than in the country, because of all the concrete and ashphalt. Virtually no measurements of temperature were taken in mid ocean or jungles. . During its history the earth has had many changes of temperature, as in Roman times, when Britain was warm enough for vineyards in the far north. Greenland - now an icy wilderness - was once warm and fertile. None of the temperature changes was caused by overheating ox carts.... . Most sinisterly, the hundreds of scientists who profoundly disagree with the thesis of global warming do not get their papers published in scientific journals. Only the perceived wisdom of the day is allowed. Governments pour money at alarmist scientists who cry calamity. Those who say there is little to worry about do not get funded. . One blowhard from the University of East Anglia, from which much hot air about global warming emanates, was shown on film back in the seventies - warning about the coming new ice age! The BBC, true to its craven form, accompanied this with graphics showing London frozen over. The bowing towards the global warming myth has become like a new religion and is to be deplored and challenged at every opportunity. Here is a story from The Berean Call which puts matters into perspective: 20,000 scientists, of whom about 2,700 of them are physicists, geophysicists, climatologists, meteorologists, oceanographers or environmental scientists, who are in a position to understand the global warming issues, have signed the following statement: "There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gasses is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth's atmosphere and disruption of the Earth's climate. "Moreover, there is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments of the Earth."1 Christians especially need to be cautious when it comes to the issue of global warming and other environmental issues. One of the reasons is that these issues have been hijacked by individuals who desire to change our way of life, and in particular, the Christian worldview that has guided the Western Hemisphere. [Columnist] Veith [noted in an article]: "A big part of the problem is that the current environmental movement has been hijacked by the far left."2 1. Beisner, E.C., P.K. Driessen, R.
