A project for you - by Pat Franklin

Here is a project for the weekend – make yourself a Passport to Heaven.  This little passport, a card folded in half to make 4 pages, is the best witnessing tool  I have ever found.   I’ve lost track of the number of people in lockdown who have accepted one of these, with many of them thanking me profusely.

God gave me the idea for it when we were doing the fabulous Golden City of Revelation chapter 21 in Sunday School.   At the end of the lesson,  I gave them  the passports  made up and folded into a card, so they could draw whatever they wanted on the front page and sign their names on the back page.

It was so exciting, and their pictures were much better than mine.  One girl drew a red heart with ‘I love Jesus’ in the middle – my favorite!

The passports were an afterthought, because we mainly drew the Golden City with all its majestic  bejewelled splendor on a big poster, with smaller versions on paper plates to take home, using lots of glitter and fake jewels.

But in lockdown, the passports just came back to me and I started making them on the dining table.  The table is my production line, and I bought a laminator, which is perfect in lockdown, as people are happy  to take them, since they can wipe them down.

The front Page 1 just says Passport at the top and I draw a little cloud with a heavenly city on top with rays coming out to show that it is a spectacular city.

Underneath the drawing of the city it says:  If you are a follower of Jesus Christ, the Bible says:  'Our citizenship is in Heaven'  (Philippians 3:20)

Page 2 inside says:

‘Gospel’ means good news.  The gospel  has 3 main points.  You must believe all 3 to be saved from hell.

1.      Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died on the cross, shedding His holy blood as a sacrifice for my sins.

2.     He was buried.

3.     He rose from the dead on the third day, according to the scriptures in the Bible.

These 3 things are in all 4 gospels – Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.  They were preached by all the apostles, who died martyrs’ deaths rather than deny these 3 points.  Faith in Jesus’ death is the only way to get your sins forgiven.  Rejecting Jesus’ sacrifice for us means we reject our only way to Heaven.

Page 3 inside says somethng like this (I keep adjusting it) :

Steps to Heaven:

1.  Talk to God tonight - tell Him you believe the 3 things in the gospel - that Jesus, who is God the Son, died for you, was buried and rose from the dead

2.  Ask the Lord Jesus to forgive your sins and make you one of His people (the Bible says ALL of us are sinners)

3.  Be willing to tell other people about Jesus when opportunities arise

For the first time ever, people listened when I showed them the passport and opened it to explain the gospel on Page 2 – that there are three things they must believe to be saved from Hell and to become a citizen of Heaven.

Often they would be nodding in agreement as I pointed the 3 things out.  Most of them had only a hazy idea of what the gospel was until then.

Then on the back page it says:

I believe that Jesus, the Son of God, died for me.  Please forgive my sins, Lord Jesus, and make me one of Your people, in Your great family.  I put my trust in You alone to save me from Hell.

NAME ……………………………………………………Citizen of Heaven

(So they can consider all this and think before signing)

Then at the bottom of Page 4 it says:

Now have a quiet time, at least 10 minutes every day when you read the Bible.  That is how you get to know God and that is how He speaks to us, through the Bible.  Try to find a church that believes the Bible and where you can share the Lord’s Supper, bread and wine, to remember Jesus’ death until He comes back, as He promised.(1 Cor 11:26)  Also, be baptized (full immersion), as Jesus commanded us. (Matthew 28:19)

That's it, just 4 pages.  You can copy the text from here if you like.

It’s just so simple, but so profound.  It sets us on a course to Heaven, puts us on Jesus’ team, gives us our most important purpose in life – serving Jesus, our glorious Savior.

I will try to put some pictures of this here, but only have 3 pic spaces, so I will put Pages 1,2 and 4.  On Pg 3 you can put something like:  ‘I open the door of my heart to You, Lord Jesus,  Please forgive my sins and come into my life and be my Lord.’

As we approach the end of this era of grace, this may be the only passport you can use!  Of course it is just a piece of card.

What gets you into Heaven is faith in Jesus.

How privileged we are to live in these last days.  We must make every one of them count and ask the Lord to bring people to us whose hearts are ready to receive the gospel.

As for putting the pics on so you can see what I am talking about, it may take some time, but I will try, not very good at this.

Just as I thought - pic is the wrong way round, and no way I can see to fix it, so I'll just leave this pg 1 up and maybe you can still get the idea of what I'm talking about.  Sorry, we are just non-techie's, have no staff, just us.

Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father, who is in heaven will enter. Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?' And then I will declare to them, 'I never know you: depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.'
