According to news reports, The Department of Transport has approved 233 new speed camera sites across Britain.
Paul Smith, founder of the Safe Speed road safety campaign,
(www.safespeed.org.uk) told thefreepressonline.co.uk: "Speed cameras are bad news for road safety because they focus efforts on the wrong safety targets.
“The Department of Transport staff have not been reading their own research properly because the report they published shows that claims of benefits at speed camera sites have been vastly overrated."
"We will not get road safety back on track while a single speed camera remains on our roads."
Alan Franklin comments: Paul is quite right. Speed cameras are not about road safety – in fact they cause accidents. This is about fund raising, which is why the police, who keep a percentage of the take, are so keen on them.

If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand, he also will drink of the wine of the wrath of God...And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever...
