Being critical and “judgmental” is sometimes necessary but not in the spirit of the age. Especially when you criticize a powerful if evil institution like the Roman Catholic (false) Church, which we do at every opportunity. So when we get an e-mail like the one that follows it is encouraging - and shows that what we do may not be popular, but it is necessary. It is from an Anglican worship leader who recognizes the folly of linking with the RCs, whose Queen of Heaven deity is straight out of Babylon - and the pits of hell.
My name is B….. and I have just read your on-line article of 23/1/2009 titled
"The Roman Catholic Church verses the Bible"
and I couldn't agree with you more.
I am an Anglican, a worship leader and Bible reader and on the Vestry at my local parish.
I am dismayed that the Anglican church is even contemplating reuniting with the Catholic Church, and if that happens - which I fear it will - I will be walking away from the Anglican Church. If the churches reunite it means that Anglicans are condoning a church that has unbiblical and pagan doctrines and practices.
And for those people who don't follow the Bible as it is written, they should put their Bible back on the shelf where it can gather dust because you can't ignore any part of God's word.
I thank the Lord that we have people like you who are standing for the truth. May God watch over you and Pat.
Here’s a taste of what we write and I speak, taken from our book Cults and Isms: True or False? which is available from our web shop. I expose the cults and isms, including Islam and Catholicism as well as the more obvious ones, to any church which invites me in the USA, Canada or the UK.
These are exciting times, the end times, the times of the signs of the Lord’s soon return!
Before this astounding event takes place, Jesus told us what to watch for. One of the signs - in evidence all round the world today - is the rapid rise in false cults and isms; non-biblical belief systems and evil, Satanically-inspired doctrines, like political correctness.
Matthew 24 sets the scene for the final acts to be played out on earth before He comes to put an end to false sects and philosophies. As the Lord sat on the Mount of Olives, overlooking Jerusalem, He answered the disciples’ question (verse 3): “What shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?”
The first response Jesus gave was a warning about deception: “Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying I am Christ; and shall deceive many.” Jesus gave the warning about false Christs and prophets three times to show its importance (Matthew 24; 5,11 and 24).
In verse 24 He warns that these false teachers will show great signs and wonders and, if it were possible, will deceive even Christians -
“the very elect.” Today many people are easily deceived. So we wrote this book to shine some light into dark corners of the false sects and isms that often masquerade as Christian - and also into Islam.
Cults have been muddying the spiritual waters since the Judaizers in the first century AD, and false teaching within supposed Christianity really got under way with Constantine when he became a nominal Christian in 312 A.D., when a form of Christianity became the dominant religion of the Roman Empire, becoming the official religion in 380 AD. Out of this came Romanism, the Roman Catholic Church, the biggest “ism” of all to this day, with over a billion followers.
So we give a lot of space in
book to look at the false claims and doctrines of Catholicism.
We also examine the claims and beliefs of Islam, which now numbers more adherents than Catholicism. We test the claims of Mohammed and his followers against what the Bible says. Do we pray “to the same god,” as we are told by politicians and churchmen? The answers are inside, in our second Table of Truth.
One of our Tables of Truth looks at the Mormons, the cult founded in the mid 19th century by Joseph Smith. These and Jehovah’s Witnesses are those you are most likely to find on your doorstep, claiming to be Christians. Are they? We answer that question.
Also included are the Seventh Day Adventists, which may surprise some who assume they are just another type of Christian denomination.
Having examined their background and teaching, we believe this is untrue: they have the characteristics of a cult. Interestingly, Charles Taze Russell, the JW founder, was influenced by the Millerites, forerunners of the Adventist cult.
As well as making false prophecies about the end of the world, the return of the Lord etc, they both share the unscriptural doctrine of
“soul sleep.” There are often links or similarities between the founders of false faiths. Often, like the Mormon conman Joseph Smith and Ellen White, prophetess of Adventism, the occult plays a part in that they both “saw visions.”(Mohammed had a similar experience in a cave.)
They were clearly not hearing from God, as their visions were wayward and unbiblical. The reason for the links and similarities is that behind all false religion is the liar-in -chief, Satan himself. The father-of-lies likes nothing more than to send more deluded, often poorly educated, folk on a spiritual wild goose chase ending in Hell.
I also include a chapter on one of the world’s most popular false belief systems: global (non) warming, which has rapidly become a cult in its own right, one which stands no correction and is promoted with neo-religious fervour. Well, I have tried to correct it!
Psychics, spiritism and New Age beliefs are everywhere in the west and again, I have felt it necessary to include a warning chapter. Many are sucked into the occult via “psychic advice” lines, psychic television shows and public tours by so-called mediums. Avoid them: if they are in touch with anyone, it is demons - fallen angels.
We conclude with a brief look at other popular myths, misunderstandings, false religions and wrong-headed semi-religious ideas.
These are times of deception, the hallmark of the end times. Become forewarned, forearmed with the facts and be like the noble Bereans. Search the scriptures daily to see if these things are true or false. We hope our book helps point you in the right direction, the direction of the one true faith, the one true Messiah, the once and coming king, the Lord Jesus Christ.
The cults are thick on the ground, which is a sign of the times pointing to the soon return of our Lord. Some marks of a cult:
Denial of the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ / the Trinity / the atoning death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus.
- The Bible plus.
They add their book or books or, in the case of the Catholics, tradition, to the Bible – and their books or their traditions take precedence over God’s Word.
- They preach a different gospel.
Salvation is not through faith in Christ alone, and salvation is not assured.
- They claim to be the one true church or faith or group; salvation is not through faith alone, but through them alone.
- They have a strong leader or leaders who cannot be challenged.
- There may be visions of supernatural beings, and these beings are not tested by Bible standards; what they say is just accepted as from God.
- They claim to have true prophets who speak direct revelation from God, so no one is allowed to question them.
- They do not repent when their prophecies fail; they cover it all up or find some excuse.
- There is often involvement with the occult in some way, e.g. divination through staring at or through objects until some “revelation” comes; or meditating in an unbiblical way by blanking out their mind, waiting for something to be revealed (this is a trance state when one is open to demonic influence).
- Immorality among the leadership at some stage, since false doctrine inevitably leads to immorality.
In the case of the Catholic Church, we have seen it in an explosion of bad publicity, and the known cases of paedophilia may well be just the tip of the iceberg.
- Iron control of members, who are never allowed to think for themselves.
- Fear of losing your salvation if you leave the cult.
Roll of Dishonor.
A roll call of some of the false prophets.
There is no questioning them, for their pronouncements come from “god”.
- Joseph Smith – Mormons (followed by Brigham Young). Young left $2 million when he died.)
- Ellen G. White – Seventh Day Adventists
- Baha’u’llah – Bahai religion (Islam minus the violence)
- Pope – considered to speak infallibly, with the full authority of God, when making official ex cathedra pronouncements to the Roman Catholic Church
- Buddha - Buddhism
- Many men and women on religious TV claim to be prophets – Word of Faith movement
The test of a true prophet:
Deut 18:22 “When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.”
“In the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their conscience seared with a hot iron…” 1 Timothy 4:1,2
“Evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.”
2 Timothy 3:13
The Lord knew exactly what would happen in the years immediately prior to His return, the Second Advent which is a key teaching of the Bible but which is seldom touched on in what passes for "church" today. It's time to get serious, for anyone with an eye to see and ears to hear can understand that the final world climax is fast approaching. Just watch the news!
The fact that the world is focussed on a tiny sliver of land called Israel, which is the central theme of the Bible, which was written by Jews under the inspiration of The Holy Spirit, should tell you that remarkable events are afoot.
Fortunately, the Bible's prophets have warned us in advance what will happen. It's the most exciting event in world history - soon to take place.
I will write more on this in the next few weeks- or talk on it where invited, to any church in the UK or North America. It's time to get serious, for time could well be short! Our book, Cults and Isms: True or False? and our book on the causes of the decline of nations: Goodbye America, Goodbye Britain
are available from the web shop on this site as are several of our DVDs.
