Seven prophecies of the angel Gabriel - four down, three to go

by Pat Franklin

The angel Gabriel prophesied seven things to Mary.  The first four have literally happened. Will the last three glorious promises also come true?

Dr David Reagan is the host of a wonderful half hour program called ‘Christ in Prophecy’.*   During Christmas week he used the show to look at Gabriel’s seven promises.  Gabriel’s prophecies to Mary when she was still a young virgin were:

1        Mary will conceive and give birth to a son

2        He will be named Jesus

3        He will be great

4        He will be called the Son of the Most High

5        He will be given the throne of David

6        He will reign over the house of Jacob forever

7        There will be no end to His kingdom.

Dave and his panel agreed that the first four prophecies had been literally fulfilled in history.  The last three have clearly not happened, so they are future.  The Lord Jesus is not on the throne of David; He is on His Father’s throne in Heaven.  He is not reigning over the house of Jacob yet, as the Jews for the most part still reject Him.  His Kingdom is not yet set up, as He, the King, is not back on earth yet.

But the Catholic Church and most Protestant churches teach that those three last prophecies are just symbolic of the church.  They say the church has taken the place of Israel and now reigns on the earth, and the Kingdom is the church.  This position is called ‘a-millennialism’, in other words – no Millennium, no 1,000 year Millennial reign of the Lord Jesus Christ on earth, no Kingdom reign with King Jesus ruling from Jerusalem.  (Even though the 1,000 years are prophesied no fewer than SIX times in the Book of Revelation, Chapter 20)

Dave and the panel made the point that the first four prophecies were literally fulfilled, and there is no reason to think that the last three prophecies are just symbolic or allegorical.  They also pointed out just a few of the specific prophecies about the Millennium reign; for example:

1        That the Lord Jesus will return to the Mount of Olives  (Zechariah 14:4)

2        That the Mount of Olives will split in two when His foot touches it (Zech 14:4)

3        That during His Millennial reign the animals will be different and (just one example) the lion will eat straw like the ox  (Isaiah 11:7)

4        The followers of the Lord Jesus will reign with Him, but most of us do not reign over anything at the moment. (2 Timothy 2:12 and Rev 20:6)

All this and more is just swept aside as symbolic or allegorical by the Catholic Church and most Protestant churches, because they do not accept the prophecies of the Bible as literal, even though so many have already been literally fulfilled.

We congratulate Dave and his team on a great program.  They also made the point that before the great – and literal! – Millennium begins, the true church, all those who truly follow Jesus, will be removed from the earth and meet the Lord in the air (1 Thes 4:16-18 and 1 Cor 15:51).   That event, the Rapture of the church, is also denied by the Catholic Church and most Protestant churches today.

This dismal situation existing today is the literal fulfilment of another prophecy, this one from the lips of the Lord Jesus Himself:  ‘When the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?’ (Luke 18:8) with the implied answer – no, hardly any real faith left by the time Jesus returns.

Are you waiting for the return of the Lord Jesus?  He came the first time, just as prophesied, literally.  And He is coming again, just as prophesied, literally – first for His people, the church, and later with His people, for the great Second Coming event when He will set up His Millennial Kingdom.

Do you want to be a part of that Kingdom?  Do you want to reign with Christ, to be given a job which will involve reigning with Him in some capacity?  You may be nothing now, but you can aspire to be a great man or woman in the Kingdom age simply by serving the Lord faithfully now in whatever thing He gives you to do, however humble or seemingly unimportant.

The rewards He will hand out for the Millennial 1,000 year reign are to do with faithfulness.  So if your job is looking after your children, or cleaning the toilets at church or whatever – if you do it faithfully for Him now, you will be rewarded.  Many who seem great now with fame and honour may well end up with nothing.  Many people will hear those terrible words from Him:  ‘I never knew you…depart from me…’

The prophecies are true; the Rapture could happen at any time; the Lord is at the very door.  Are you ready?  Are you being faithful?   And if you are not even sure that you are a Christian at all, please make sure today.  Here is a good prayer:

‘Dear Jesus, I am a sinner. I have done, said and thought bad things. I am so sorry (name every sin that He brings to your memory). I believe that You are the Son of God who died on the cross for my sins, that You were buried and rose from the dead after three days.  Please forgive me and make me one of Your people.’

If you can say that prayer and really mean it, tell someone that you now believe in Jesus Christ and He is your Savior.  Don’t be ashamed to acknowledge Jesus as your Lord.  If you acknowledge Him on earth, He will acknowledge you in Heaven.  Next you will need to find some other real Christians and get baptized in water.**  And – welcome to the family of God!

 * ‘Christ in Prophecy’ is aired in Britain on Daystar satellite at 4am on Thursdays. In our opinion, it is the best Christian program on TV in Britain.     Dr David Reagan is with Lamb and Lion Ministries of McKinney, Texas.  The Lamb-Lion name refers to the Lord Jesus, who in His first advent came as a sacrificial lamb, the Lamb of God, who was the sacrifice for our sins.  The next time the Lord Jesus comes to earth it will be as the Lion of the tribe of Judah and in that advent He will destroy all His enemies and set up His glorious Kingdom.

**Not that baptism saves you; it does not. We are saved by God's grace, through faith in Jesus Christ.  Salvation is a free gift of God, but once we have come to faith in Christ, we should obey the Lord's clear will for each of us to be baptized in water.
