Human civilization only goes back about 4500 years - just what the Bible teaches. One more proof that the Bible is true history. by Pat Franklin

If you put something like 'oldest civilization in the world' in your search engine, you will find articles about the earliest known civilized people, believed to be the Sumerians, who were in the fertile crescent of the Middle East about 4500 B.C.   That is when agriculture and writing developed, it is believed.  This perfectly fits the Genesis account in the Bible.

I am astonished that people can dismiss the book of Genesis, the first book of the Bible, so lightly.  It perfectly accounts for everything.  The more we learn, the more we find out about science and ancient history, the more the Bible is vindicated.  And yet the more the Bible is traduced, sidelined, mocked, ridiculed.   People take this stance without ever having read the Bible, let alone studied it.  Like the young man our daughter met at Cambridge University who said:  "The Bible is full of contradictions."

"Name one," said Annie.  He was unable to name even one.   He was biblically ignorant, although he was hoping to get a place at the famous old university studying theology.  Theology!  He was hoping to devote years to the study of something he clearly did not believe in at all.

When I became a Christian 31 years ago I read the Old Testament for the first time.  In 12 years of Catholic schooling I had never encountered the Old Testament.  Wow, talk about goosebumps!  The excitement, the revelations, the history of the universe and our world revealed; the creation, the terrible Fall of man; the amazing geneology from Adam; the terrible downward spiral of man's evil ways until mankind made God sick.  "And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.  So the Lord said, 'I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.'" Gen 6:6,7

And so the Lord sent the worldwide Flood, saving just one man, Noah, and his family to repopulate the earth.

I remember the sorrow that washed over me as I thought about God, so loving and kind, suffering such grief because of the sins of people like me.

Since then Alan and I have learned so much about that Flood, the terrible catastrophic event that inundated the entire globe and which completely explains the geology and topography of our world.  We have put a lot of this in our books (available from this website), including information we learned on a visit to Mount St Helen's, the volcano whose eruption provides so much evidence for the Flood.

From Genesis we get the timeline:  Creation about 6000 years ago; 1,500 years for man to sink into depravity and then the Flood; one year of total inundation and the civilization of original man buried under miles of earth as the water moved huge masses of material around the globe.  Then, about 4,500 years ago....man repopulates the earth, with the nations named in Genesis Chapter 10, the famous Table of Nations.

The next great event: the Tower of Babel, the site of which has even been found in Iraq, and the confusing of the languages of man.

All this in eleven chapters of the first book of the Bible.  The Lord is the master of language.  You could probably spend a lifetime studying those chapters, only 12 pages in my Bible, and still not glean all the amazing truths in them.

And then chapter 12 - God chose Abraham, father of the Jewish people.  God created the Jews as a special nation to teach them His ways so they could be ready when He sent His Son, the Lord Jesus, to die for the sins of the world.  But most of them were not ready.  They bungled it, just as most of us bungle things.  They didn't want to go God's way, to please Him. They wanted to please themselves, just as most of us do.

The Bible is a catalogue of man's failure over and over again, and God's great patience and forbearance with us.  But He has stated in His book that He will not always strive with man (Gen 6:3), and we know from many indicators in the Bible and the many prophecies it contains that His patience is about to run out, and most people will all have to face the terrible time of judgement that is surely coming*.

If you have never considered these things, please consider them now.  Or join the ranks of the smart alecs who will continue to scoff until it is too late.

If we are correct (we are) and the Bible is true (it is!), we will be with the Lord forever, enjoying the amazing things of God forever.  Won't you join us and put your trust in Jesus today?

Here is a good prayer:  "Dear God, I want to know the truth.  Please show me and help me believe the truth.  I don't want to be a smart alec and be thrown into hell for all eternity.  I want to know YOU!  If You are there, please reveal  Yourself to me; help me believe in Your Son."

*True Christians, those who have been born again of the Holy Spirit (born spiritually), will not have to face the awful time of judgement that is coming.  The Bible teaches in 1 Thes 4:16-18 and 1 Cor 15:51 that we will be raptured, snatched away, to meet the Lord in the air and be forever with Him.  After that event the last seven years, the 'time of Jacob's trouble' or Great Tribulation will unfold.  It is the time of God's wrath on a world that has rejected His Son, and, fortunately for those of us who believe, He tells us in 1 Thes 5:9 that He 'did not appoint us to wrath.'

Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
